The four part food photography tutorial below gathers the most important information I've learned about food photography. The content is aimed at beginning food photographers looking for guidance.
When I first started blogging, I was just sharing news and little projects with my family. When I shared my blog with a friend, she said "You know, your photos could be better." She wasn't being mean, just honest. And she was right.
I started focusing on how to take better food photos. I began reading widely about photography in general and about food photography techniques. I practiced what I was learning and began looking critically at professional food photos.
The work is beginning to pay off - just compare photos in my very first posts to my current posts to see for yourself. The camera quality has held constant through these posts; I've always had a point-and-shoot digital pocket camera. It's the way I use it that has changed.
I still have a lot more practice ahead, but I wanted to share what I've learned so far with other beginning food photographers and bloggers.
